About the Terran Epochal Compendium

What TEC Is

The Terran Epochal Compendium (TEC) is a temporal architecture framework for organizing different contexts and scales of time — including civil, lunar, seasonal, astronomical, historical, and epoch-level time. Rather than replacing existing calendars, TEC explores how these many forms of time can be organized coherently and made legible alongside one another.

How H-CLET Fits Into TEC

H-CLET — the Holocenic Compendium of Lunisolar & Equinoxal Time — is TEC's first epoch-specific implementation, built for the current Holocene context. It anchors a lunisolar calendar to the Holocene epoch and provides the concrete calendar structure that TEC's broader framework describes.

In short: TEC is the broader temporal architecture; H-CLET is its first epoch-specific implementation; and the interactive calendar is the human-facing representation of that framework.

Why the Project Was Created

Modern civil calendars are effective administrative tools, but they often separate everyday timekeeping from lunar, seasonal, astronomical, and epoch-scale context. TEC was created to explore how those contexts can be organized coherently — giving a single place to see how a date relates to the lunar month, the seasonal cycle, the sidereal sky, the precessional age, and the long Holocene epoch at once.

Creator

TEC was conceived and developed by Mike Melton as an independent research, design, and educational project exploring calendar systems, astronomical cycles, and long-term temporal organization.

Methodology and Limitations

TEC distinguishes between computed calendar values, approximate astronomical values, and conceptual system architecture. Calendar conversions (such as Julian Day Number) are computed precisely, while some astronomical outputs are intentionally approximate to keep the system lightweight and cross-platform.

Project Status

TEC is an actively researched and evolving framework. Its documentation, calculations, and educational resources continue to be refined as the project develops.
